NETWORK JOURNAL MAGAZINE JOINS FOUNDATION
The Network Journal (TNJ), a New York City-based magazine that focuses on African-American professionals and small business news, has announced its support of The Stay Strong Foundation, the national non-profit organization launched by Terrie Williams and Xavier Artis that supports, educates and inspires youth.
TNJ publisher Aziz Gueye Adetimirin pledged his support to the Foundation by saying, “It is imperative that we join this cause to enlighten and expose our youth to the ‘other side’ of life. And it is our responsibility to take them by the hand, one by one, and make them aware of the numerous opportunities and careers available to them in the corporate environment. We must show our young people how to become successful, and lead them on the right path for making sound lifestyle choices.”
The Stay Strong Foundation empowers America's youth through a series of events (The Stay Strong Experience Tour) and programs designed to raise awareness of teen issues, encourage mentoring, and provide educational resources for youth and youth organizations. The Foundation sets up mentoring opportunities, provides internships and coordinates visits by prominent individuals and business professionals to youth organizations and group homes. All efforts are geared to encourage corporate responsibility and involvement of established professionals to support today's young people by providing them opportunities that will promote their personal, educational and professional development.
Adetimirin noted that his company will provide internships and will encourage the mentoring of youth among his staff, the magazine’s advertisers, friends and families. He also announced that TNJ will be selecting five young people from throughout the five boroughs of New York City and sponsor them to attend the fifth annual 40 Under Forty Achievement Awards ceremony that is being held on Thursday, June 13, at Columbia University. A popular networking and awards celebration, the program recognizes the success and accomplishments of African-American professionals under the age of 40 who are making tremendous strides in their careers and enterprises. In addition, Adetimirin noted, the 2003 40 Under Forty Awards will include at least two honors for youth entrepreneurs.
A devoted activist for youth, Terrie Williams is also founder and president of The Terrie Williams Agency, one of the country’s premiere public relations firms. The Stay Strong Foundation was launched in conjunction with the April 2001 release of her book "Stay Strong: Simple Life Lessons for Teens" (Scholastic, Inc.). She is also the author of "The Personal Touch: What You Really Need to Succeed in Today’s Fast-paced Business World" (Warner Books). Her next book, "A Plentiful Harvest: Creating Balance and Harmony Through The Seven Living Virtues," will be published by Warner in November.
Foundation co-founder Xavier Artis is the CEO of Players Govern Players, a lifestyle marketing firm and partner of The Terrie Williams Agency. "Taking responsibility for our generation," has become the business and personal philosophy of Artis, a poet, writer, visionary, life strategist and entrepreneur. A dedicated youth advocate, Artis also says, profoundly, “If we don’t give our kids time…the system will.”
